Sheilagh Tennant, The Scotsman, Saturday 26 January 2013 THE best advice a collector can be given, when it comes to investing in contemporary art, is to buy something they like and not concentrate on its potential future value. The market for contemporary art has grown - the last ten years has seen a significant increase in the number of art fairs around the world. Several artists have become household names - e.g., Damien Hirst, Tracey Emin. However, relatively few contemporary artists' work sells for high prices at auction. It is this small number whose work is often bought as a financial investment, and it is likely that many of these works will be immediately stored and remain unseen by anyone - until the owner wishes to resell. Emerging artists who make their name in a short space of time can find their work being treated as a commodity. However, it's debatable how viable this is; even auctioneers are being very careful regarding the questions around investment. Matthew Paton, of Christie's, said recently: "The value of art is subject to people's taste, and you can't judge future taste." Read the full article on May 2012 The new contemporary exhibition programme at Robert Burns Birthplace Museum was launched at the beginning of May 2012 with a solo selling show of Adrian Wiszniewski's paintings and drawings - 'The Man who loved Women'. Although this exhibition has finished, some of the work, or something similar may be available. If you would like to find out more please contact via email or call on 07788 433 704. Glasgow Herald Review (PDF) Inspired As part of the Year of Homecoming 2009, in partnership with Culture Sport Glasgow, artruist organised "Inspired", a major exhibition celebrating the life and work of Robert Burns. "Inspired" was on display in the Old Reading Hall at The Mitchell Library, Glasgow. The exhibition featured around 50 contemporary works of art inspired by Burns?s life and works alongside a small selection of Burns related relics. Also, a limited edition print was created, incorporating the Inspired design, and there are still some available ? the ?Inspired Burns? edition. See also our Press coverage. Also, a limited edition print and an unlimited lithograph were created, incorporating the Inspired design, and these are available - the "Inspired Burns" editions National Deaf Children's Society Christie's, London Part1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 "We are extremely grateful to Sheilagh for all her help with our Diamond Anniversary auction at Christies in Nov 2004. We were particularly pleased to attract such high profile artists for the auction and for the National Deaf Children's Society. We were also very impressed by the way she managed countless media interviews while simultaneously hanging the exhibition!" Anne Bolitho, Director of Fundraising & Communications, National Deaf Children's Society ARTAID 2002 Bloomberg, London. Brochure "The Adapt NOW exhibition, sourced and curated by Sheilagh Tennant was one of the most successful contemporary shows ever held at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum, Glasgow. Over a period of three weeks it attracted more than 50,000 visitors. Sales contributed to ADAPT funds and more importantly the exhibition helped to raise the profile of the Trust's work in improving access for disabled people to the arts."
